Year Long President James K. Polk State Historic Site 40 th Anniversary Celebration. The site will host a yearlong series of events commemorating its 40th anniversary. Details TBA.

February 16 Three Carolina Presidents. This informative program will give visitors a chance to look into the lives of three Carolina presidents: Andrew Jackson, James K. Polk and Andrew Johnson. Please join Dr. Jim Sasser (retired Professor of History from CPCC), the staff of Andrew Jackson State Park in Lancaster, S.C., and the staff of President James K. Polk State Historic Site for this informative look into the lives of the three presidents. Hours: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

April 10 Book Signing and Lecture. Please join us as we welcome author Walter Borneman to the site. Borneman will be speaking about his new book, Polk: The Man who Transformed the Presidency and America. Afterwards, he will sign copies of his new book. Pre-registration is required by April 1. 7- 8 p.m.

July Living History Camps for children. These one-day history day camps will use living history to teach campers about daily life on the Polk Farm from 1795-1806, the Mexican War 1846-1848 and the administration of President James K. Polk. Pre-registration required. Fee charged: $25 per participant. Pre-registration required. Call 704-889-7145 for more details.

November 1 Polk Birthday Celebration. This living history program will bring back to life the Polk family of Mecklenburg County in November 1795, when James K. Polk was born into the family. Activities will include a historic cooking demonstration, children’s games and other hands on activities. Hours: 10 a.m – 4 p.m.

December 13 Christmas Program. Come and participate in a day of Christmas festivities. Visitors will see a living history vignette in the main house. Each building will be decorated in the 19th century style! Come and learn about food and customs from Christmas in 1802! 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
