Monument Diversity

The North Carolina Memorial Study Committee is charged by the North Carolina Historical Commission to examine opportunities for improving the diversity of experiences represented in the Capitol and on its grounds. The Committee seeks public feedback on the merits of additional plaques, memorials or statues dedicated to American Indians, African Americans and women in North Carolina. Please click HERE to post comments to our blog and find out more about public hearings in your area.

The North Carolina State Capitol, completed in 1840, is one of the finest and best-preserved examples of a major civic building in the Greek Revival style of architecture. It is a National Historic Landmark.

Be sure to drop by to see our new exhibits on African American legislators of the late 19th century!
