How Schools Can Get the Most Out of Visiting Bennett Place
Hints
- Please arrive ten minutes before your scheduled tour and check in at the visitor center. This helps organize students and gives staff a chance to review ground rules.
- Make sure that you take traffic, driving time, and your bus driver's schedule into consideration. On certain days, we must adhere to a strict time schedule, and if your group runs late, portions of the tour unfortunately may have to be shortened or eliminated.
- Make sure students are dressed for the weather. The students will be outside as they move from building to building and the historic buildings do not have temperature control.
Museum Manners
Because of the age of Bennett Place, we ask that visitors observe the following rules during their visit. Please be sure to review this information with your group before your scheduled program. Students and visitors who cannot adhere to these rules may be asked to wait on the bus until the program ends. Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to a wonderful visit with you!
- Please be aware that most items in the historic structures are nearly 150 years old and very fragile. They will last many more years if they are not handled. Please do not sit, touch, or lean on any furniture or any other part of the buildings.
- To preserve the historic house and our guests' safety, please do not either climb on any structure to look in the windows or on the fences.
- Food, drink, gum and umbrellas are not allowed in the house. Please leave these items in the vehicle, or in the case of umbrellas, outside the doors of the historic buildings.
- There is no smoking allowed inside or near any of the historic structures.
Lunch and Souvenirs
- Bennett Place has an area where groups may picnic. You are invited to use them but please reserve the area at the time you make your tour reservation to ensure that we do not double book them with another group.
- There is a gift shop in the lobby of the visitor center. If the children plan to shop, please let us know ahead of time.
