Today, this grassy property that overlooks Bath Creek and the Pamlico River is owned by the State of North Carolina and maintained as a public park. In the 18th and 19th-centuries, it would have been crowded with docks, warehouses and industrial buildings connected with the maritime trade and lumber industry.
