Directions

From N.C. 147 (Durham Freeway), take exit 164 (I-85 N/US 15-501 N Bypass) to the Hillsborough Rd. exit, turn left, and follow the brown state markers to Bennett Memorial Rd. and the site.

From I-85, take the Cole Mill Rd. exit and take Cole Mill Rd. to Hillsborough Rd., follow brown state markers to Bennett Memorial Rd. and the site.

Fromo US 15-501 N, take the Moreene Rd. exit and turn left at the top of the ramp. Turn left onto Bennett Memorial Rd. and the site is on the left.

Facilities

Historic Structures
The reconstructed farmhouse has three furnished rooms and the original chimney (ca. 1846). The kitchen and smokehouse may also be viewed on guided or self-guided tours.
Visitor Center
The visitor center contains three rooms of exhibits on the Bennett family, the Civil War, and the surrender at the Bennett Place. There is also a model of the Bennett farm showing the arrival of Union and Confederate cavalry troops on April 17, 1865. The fifteen-minute audiovisual program titled Dawn of Peace is shown on the hour. Access to a Civil War library is available by appointment for researchers.
Trails, Monuments, Outdoor Exhibits
The Unity Monument, erected in 1923, emphasizes the reunification of the United States after the Civil War.
Handicapped Accessibility
The visitor center is accessible to all visitors. There is a short path to the historic buildings. The buildings have steps and are not fully accessible to those using a wheelchair.
Picnic Facilities
Two picnic areas with nine tables are available on the grounds.
Gift Shop
A sales desk is located in the visitor center with books and souvenir items related to the Bennett Place and the Civil War.

Programs, Group Activities

Special events throughout the year focus on military and farm life. The annual surrender program occurs on the last weekend in April.

Guided Tours

Guided tours are scheduled on the half-hour. It is requested that groups make reservations in advance.

Fees

No admission fees. Donations are accepted and appreciated.
